Background Information Society Objectives Background Information on Rapid Prototyping Society Of India Development of Rapid Prototyping (RP) technologies and advances in CAD and design methodologies led to a revolution in product Development in the 1990's. RP technologies were developed in the U.S in the late 1980's. Although RP found immediate acceptance as an important tool in product Design and Development in the U.S, it was not until 1996 that RP started making impact in the Indian context. The economic liberalisation and globalisation led to Indian companies developing new products, especially in the automotive and consumer product sectors. Today India is second-to-none when it comes to developing innovative new products. Currently there are over 100 RP systems installed in India, one of the largest RP installations in Asia. This growth of RP technologies and proliferation of 3D CAD and CAE in India resulted in the First National Symposium on RP&T in Bangalore during October 2001. The Symposium was immensely successful in attracting many participants from all over the country. The first symposium culminated in the formation of the Rapid Prototyping Society of India (RPSI). Rapid Prototyping Society of India (RPSI) was registered in 2001 under the aegis of the National Design and Research Forum with Lt. Gen (Dr.) V.J.Sundaram as the Chief Patron. The primary objectives of RPSI are to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Tooling technologies. The society is managed by a council consisting of a President, a Vice-president, a Secretary and a Treasurer/Executive Convener. ![]() OBJECTIVES Rapid Prototyping Society of India strives. • To promote active interaction among “Professionals” engaged and interested in Rapid Prototyping and Tooling techniques and their applications. • To encourage widespread applications of Rapid Prototyping and Tooling in India. • To undertake as well as actively support research and development and innovation in Rapid Prototyping and Tooling. • To establish information banks and disseminate knowledge on Rapid Prototyping technology through education, training courses, workshops, seminars, symposia, visits, lectures, publications, audio visuals and other appropriate means. • To foster excellence and creativity and provide recognition of significant contributions of individuals, groups and organizations in Rapid Prototyping and its applications. • To provide a professional forum for discussion of major issues related to Rapid Prototyping such as their economic exploitation, long term conservation, new developments and imaginative uses. • To establish or cause to be established National and Regional facilities and Test Centers for research and evaluation of Rapid Prototyping methods. • To Promote wide Public interest in Rapid Prototyping developments and their potential and in information of policies and novel measures appropriate to investments in research, development and exploitation of advances in science and technology of Rapid Prototyping for national goals of self-reliance, economic growth and development and exports. • To encourage interactions and cooperation internationally with other societies and organizations engaged in furtherance of Rapid Prototyping. |
